Introduction

The promotion of cultural knowledge, creativity and inter cultural understanding through education has become the need of the hour to prepare the children to understand changes in needs and to anticipate them. Education in “Arts” and Education through the “Arts” open up access to a widely defined cultural education and are an essential part of it. The ability to enter into intercultural dialogue and trans-cultural understanding will decide the future of our blooming scholars.

In order to achieve the goals of cultural understanding/ education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has established a well knit Educational System – CCRT, Centre for cultural resource and trainings which trains almost all the teachers throughout the year in different courses offered by them. Moreover, the department also provides opportunities to the scholars to understand unity in diversity and other crafts and arts by undertaking different tour programmes for the students all over the world.

The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has also taken positive steps in this behalf by establishing Cultural Education Wing in the Directorate of School Education with District Coordinators at the District level.

In Budgam Cultural Education Wing is run by Mr. Abdul Rouf Shahmiri, Mr. Mohammad Maqbool as District Coordinator Cultural Education Wing. The wing is supported by the Zonal Coordinators at zonal level. All functionaries put in their best efforts to provide equal opportunities to the talented students and teachers. The wing organizes different events/ programmes throughout the year, trainings for the teachers and students, tours (All India/ Heritage Tours).

Achievements during the year 2016-17

• The district Kala Utsav team bagged 1st position at Provincial level event in theatre at Police Auditorium Jammu.
• Conducted District Level NaatQirat Competition at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam.
• Organized Children’s Special Train “Wadi Ki Ser” train trip from Budgam –-Baramulla.
• Bagged 3rd position in Qawwali Competition in “Ramzan Special Programme” organized by Department of Culture Art and Languages.
• Bagged 2nd Position in Quranic Quiz in “Ramzan Special Programme” organized by Department of Culture Art and Languages.
• Organized/coordinated Republic Day and Independence Day Celebrations 2016 and 2017. On these occasions the Cultural Wing organizes various cultural items and parade.

Achievements during the year 2014

• Conducted District Level Naat Qirat Competition on 16-04-2014 at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam. In which Aabid Nabi from Middle School Paripora Magam and Maqsood Ahmad Ganie from High School Narbal bagged the 1st prize in Naat and Qirat Competitions respectively.
• Conducted District Level Essay writing Painting Competition on 21-04-2014 at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam. In which Shahida Rehman from High School SK Pora Narbal and Khushboo Yousuf from GHSS Budgam bagged the 1st prize in Essay writing and Painting Competitions respectively.
• Conducted District Level Debate on the topic “ Is Social Networking harmful for students” on 28-05-2014 at Block Resource Center Budgam. In which Zeenat Majeed from Girls HSS Nagam bagged the 1st prize.
• Conducted World Anti Tobacco Day on 31-05-2014 in the Auditorium Hall of Boys HSS Nagam. In which a blind student namely Musawir Nabi from Middle School Nagam was felicitated.
• Conducted District Level Quiz Competition on 12-06-2014 at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam. In which the students from Zone Dreygam namely Azhar ul Islam and Sajad Ahmad Tantray bagged the 1st prize.
• Conducted Internation Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26-06-2014 at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam. In which Officers from District Administration and Health Department deliberated the audience.
• Launched District wide Anti Tobacco Campaign involving all the Educational Institutions, organized rallies road shows, street dramas etc.
• Organized District Level Iqbal Day on 18-08-2014 at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam. In which Muzamila Zahoor from Boys HSS Ichigam Zone Dreygam bagged the 1st prize.
• Released the maiden edition of District Level Magzine “ TCHONG” which is a mile stone in the history of Education Department in Budgam.
• Besides this Teachers cum Students Mushira, Seminars, Naatiya Mushaira, Senior Citizens Day, Teachers Day and other events of national as well as international importance have been conducted during the year by the wing.
